Details of the Agnipath Scheme

 

The Agnipath Scheme is an important initiative of the Government of India to strengthen the Armed Forces by recruiting young people. This scheme gives Indian youth a chance to serve the country for a fixed period, gain work experience, build leadership skills, and learn useful skills. Candidates selected under this scheme, called Agniveers, will receive proper training and skill development during their service. After completing 4 years of service, the best performers may be considered for permanent appointment in the regular forces based on merit and organizational needs.

 

Eligibility Requirements

 

Age Limit

  • Date of Birth: Candidates born between 02 July 2005 and 02 January 2009 (both dates included) can apply.
  • Age at Enrollment: After selection, the candidate’s age at the time of joining must not be more than 21 years.
  • Age Calculation: Age will be counted from the date of registration.

Marital Status (Important)

  • Unmarried Only: Only unmarried male candidates are eligible for Agniveervayu Non-Combatant posts.
  • Marriage Declaration: Selected candidates must give a written promise that they will not marry during the 4-year service period.
  • Violation Rule: If a candidate marries during the service period, they will be removed from service immediately without any benefits.
  • Regular Cadre Selection: Only unmarried Agniveervayu Non-Combatants will be considered for permanent selection as Non-Combatant (E) after completing 4 years.

Educational Qualification

Physical and Medical Requirements

 

Physical Eligibility Requirements

  • Height: Minimum height required is 152 cm
  • Chest Expansion: At least 5 cm expansion is required
  • Weight: Body weight should be according to height and age

Medical Standards

Vision Requirements

  • Refractive Error: Should not be more than ± 3.5 diopters, including astigmatism.
  • Eyesight: Vision should be 6/36 in each eye, correctable up to 6/9 in each eye.
  • Color Vision: Must meet CP-III standard.
  • Important Note: Eye surgeries like PRK or LASIK are not allowed.

Hearing Requirements

  • The candidate must have normal hearing ability.
  • Should be able to hear a forced whisper from 6 meters distance with each ear separately.

Dental Requirements

  • Healthy gums and good teeth condition are required.
  • At least 14 dental points are necessary.
  • Dental implants or implant-supported teeth will not be counted for points.
  • Candidates using fixed or removable braces will be declared unfit.

General Health Requirements

  • Must be medically fit as per Indian Air Force standards.
  • Body structure should be normal, with no missing body parts.
  • Should not have any current or past serious medical or surgical problems.

General Reasons for Disqualification


Narcotic Drugs & Substance Abuse (Zero Tolerance)

  • Use of narcotic or psychotropic drugs banned under the NDPS Act, 1985 is strictly prohibited and will lead to rejection.
  • Any Agniveer found possessing, storing, selling, or using such substances after joining will face strict disciplinary action, including removal from service.
  • The Indian Air Force follows a zero-tolerance policy towards alcoholism and substance abuse.

Body Tattoos

  • Permanent tattoos are generally not allowed.
  • Allowed exceptions: Tattoos on the inner forearm (from elbow to wrist), back of the hand, and tribal tattoos as per traditional customs may be permitted.
  • The final decision on tattoo acceptance will be taken by the Selection Centre.
  • Candidates with tattoos must submit two photographs (close-up and full view) along with tattoo details during the selection process.

Gender-Related Disqualifications

  • Candidates showing dominant physical traits of the opposite gender will be declared unfit.
  • Candidates who have undergone gender reassignment surgery will also be declared unfit.
