Eligibility Requirements for Indian Army Sports Quota 2025 

Educational Qualification

 For Both Direct Entry Havildar & Naib Subedar:

 

  • Minimum required qualification: Passed 10th (Matriculation) 
  • From a recognized Board/School/College/University  Provisional or online certificates must bear an ink-signed attestation by the head of the institution 
  • Candidates with a matriculation certificate from an open school must submit a school leaving certificate duly countersigned by the Education Officer (EO) or District Education Officer (DEO)

 

Age Criteria 

For Direct Entry Havildar:  

  • Age Limit: Between 17½ and 25 years 
  • Candidate must be at least 17½ years old on the starting date of the enrollment period 
  • Age should not exceed 25 years by the closing date of the enrollment period 
  • Eligible candidates must be born between 31 March 2001 and 01 April 2008 (including both dates) 

 

For Direct Entry Naib Subedar:  

Age Limit: 17½ to 25 years 

  • Must have attained 17½ years of age at the beginning of the enrollment period 
  • Should not be older than 25 years on the last day of the enrollment period 
  • Birth dates must fall between 31 March 2001 and 01 April 2008 (both days inclusive)

 

Sporting Accomplishments 

For Direct Entry Havildar: 

  • Must have won a medal at the Junior or Senior level while representing their State in a National Championship OR 
  • Must have represented India at the International level 

Individual Events: 

  • Must have won a medal at the Junior or Senior level while representing their State in a National Championship OR 
  • Must have represented India at the International level  

Team Events: 

  • Should have played for their State or Country in National or International tournaments at the Junior or Senior level  

Khelo India Games: 

  • Must have secured a medal in Khelo India Games, Khelo India Youth Games, or Khelo India University Games

 

For Direct Entry Naib Subedar: 

  • Must have won a medal in the World Championship or Asian Championship 
  • Must have secured a medal in the Asian Games 
  • Must have earned a medal in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) or World Cup 
  • Should have represented India at least twice in the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, or World Cup 
  • Must have participated as a representative of India in the Olympics

 

Marital Condition

  • Only single men and women can apply. 
  • A recent unmarried certificate with photo, issued by the Village Sarpanch or Municipal Corporation within the last six months, is required.

 

Nationality 

  • The applicant must be a citizen of India

How Candidates Are Selected for Indian Army Sports Quota 2025

The Indian Army Sports Quota recruitment selection includes the following steps: 

  • Application Submission: Send the completed application form by post along with all necessary documents 
  • Short-Listing: Candidates will be shortlisted based on their top sports achievements 
  • Call-Up Letter: Shortlisted candidates will get call-up letters through email 
  • Physical Fitness Test: Includes 1.6 Km run, ditch/long jump, zig-zag balance/high jump 
  • Physical Standards Test: Checking height, weight, and chest measurements 
  • Skill Test: Test of sports skills in the relevant discipline 
  • Medical Examination: Done at the trial location by the Army Medical Team 
  • Final Selection: Depends on the number of vacancies available in each sports discipline

Information About Medical Checkup 

  • Medical checkup follows Army Medical rules and guidelines. 
  • Candidates found unfit will be sent to Military Hospital for specialist assessment within 5 days. 
  • The specialist review at the Military Hospital will be completed within 7 days. 
  • The recruitment medical officer and specialist doctors have the final say on fitness decisions. 
  • There is no option for appeal or representation after the specialist medical review. 
  • Clearing the medical exam does not guarantee a job in the Indian Army.

  • No travel or daily allowance will be given for the journey 
  • No compensation for death, injury, or loss during trials

Salary and Benefits 

  • The pay and allowances for Direct Entry Havildar and Naib Subedar will be the same as those for current Regular Indian Army personnel, following the Army Pay Rules, 2017 and its updates.

  • Havildar: According to Army Pay Rules 2017 
  • Naib Subedar: According to Army Pay Rules 2017 
  • All other benefits like DA, HRA, Transport Allowance, etc., will also be provided as applicable.

Step-by-Step Application Process:

 

1. Download the Application Form: 

  • Go to the official site: www.joinindianarmy.nic.in 
  • Download the form available on the website 
  • Print it only on A4 size paper

 

2. Fill the Form Properly: 

  • Use BLOCK LETTERS as per details in your 10th class certificate 
  • Ensure Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, and Date of Birth match exactly with matriculation certificate 
  • Fill all sections correctly 
  • Paste a recent passport-size colour photo 
  • Sign and add your thumb impression 
  • Provide your personal mobile number and email ID (do not share with others) 
  • Aadhar details must match your documents and form

 

3. Attach Required Documents (Self-Attested): 

  • Copy of 10th class certificate 
  • Copy of Aadhar card 
  • Sports certificates 
  • All achievement certificates dated from 01 Oct 2023 onwards

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES:

  • Each candidate must submit ONLY ONE application – multiple entries will lead to disqualification 
  • Applications not in the prescribed format will be rejected 
  • Incomplete forms will not be considered 
  • Submitting the application more than once from the same or different address may result in rejection 
  • The form must be fully filled with signature, thumb impression, and photograph 
  • Any mismatch in Name spelling or Date of Birth will not be accepted

 

Documents Needed During Selection Trials

Candidates must carry these ORIGINAL documents at the time of selection trials:

Photographs: 

  • Bring 20 recent passport-size color photos (not older than one month), printed on good quality paper with a white background. Candidates must have a proper haircut and be clean-shaven (except for Sikhs). No computer-edited, photocopied, or digitally altered photos are allowed.

 

Educational Certificates: 

  • Matric/Intermediate certificates with mark sheets from a recognized board/school/university. 
  • Provisional or online certificates must be signed in ink by the institution head. 
  • Open school students must also carry a school leaving certificate signed by EO/DEO.

 

Domicile Certificate: 

  • Issued with a photo by Tehsildar or District Magistrate.

 

Caste Certificate: 

  • With photo, issued by Tehsildar or District Magistrate.

 

Religion Certificate: 

  • Issued by Tehsildar/SDM (only if religion isn’t mentioned in the caste certificate).

 

School Character Certificate: 

  • From the last attended school or college principal/headmaster.

 

Character Certificate: 

  • With photo, issued by Village Sarpanch or Municipal Authority, within the last 6 months.

 

Unmarried Certificate: 

  • With photo, issued by Village Sarpanch or Municipal Body within 6 months.

 

For Employed/Ex-Servicemen Candidates: 

  • Original discharge certificate (if applicable), with no negative remarks. 
  • Original NOC from employer if currently working.

 

Sports Kit: 

  • Bring your own sportswear and gear.

 

Aadhar Card: 

  • Required for biometric verification.

 

Admit Card: 

  • Bring two copies, sent to your email from redsports.01@gov.in.

 

Body Tattoos: 

  • If present, carry two postcard-size photos (close-up and full view) showing tattoo size and design.

General Guidelines & Key Information 

Essential Conditions 

  • Unmarried Requirement: Only single candidates can apply – certificate is compulsory 
  • Clean Appearance: Candidates must be clean shaven (except Sikh applicants) 
  • For Sikh Applicants: Those keeping beard and moustache as per faith should ensure matching photographs

Drug & Substance Use Guidelines:  

  • The Indian Army follows a strict ZERO TOLERANCE approach towards alcohol and drug abuse 
  • Use or possession of banned drugs under the NDPS Act 1985 will lead to disqualification 
  • Candidates caught with or using such substances may face strict action, including removal 
  • Use of any performance-boosting drugs is strictly forbidden 
  • Anyone found under the influence of such substances will be instantly disqualified

 

Policy on Drugs and Substance Use: 

  • The Indian Army strictly enforces a ZERO TOLERANCE policy against alcohol and substance misuse. 
  • Use of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances prohibited under the NDPS Act 1985 will lead to disqualification. 
  • Candidates found using or possessing such substances will face strict action, including possible removal. 
  • Performance-enhancing drugs are completely banned. 
  • Any candidate detected under the influence of banned substances will be immediately disqualified.

 

Training Information:  

  • Basic Training: Held at the assigned Regimental Centre. 
  • Skill Training: Carried out in the designated trade at Army Training Institutions. 
  • Trade/Branch: Allotted based on the Army’s operational needs. 
  • Probation Period: All sportspersons will be on probation for 3 years. 
  • Unsuitable Performance: Can be discharged at any time during training if performance is found lacking. 
  • Discharge on Low Performance: Candidates may be released if sports performance doesn’t improve during the 3-year probation.

 

Service Terms: 

  • Can be posted anywhere across the globe 
  • May be given any duty as per the needs of the organization 
  • Can be entrusted with academic or administrative tasks 
  • Reserve liability applies same as for current JCOs/Other Ranks

 

Grounds for Disqualification:

  • Candidates previously discharged from the Indian Army for any reason are not eligible 
  • Applicants from Air Force/Navy/Government bodies must have no negative remarks in their records 
  • Previous employment must be declared during trials, with original discharge certificate provided 
  • Currently employed individuals must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer 
  • Failure to disclose job or discharge details can result in cancellation at any stage of selection

 

Important Warnings

  • Stay away from middlemen or agents – selection is completely fair, clear, and based only on merit 
  • No bribe is needed at any point during the selection process 
  • Candidates must not be misled by people pretending to be recruitment agents 
  • Strict legal action will be taken against anyone submitting fake certificates 
  • If fake documents are discovered, service can be cancelled even after several years 
  • Certificates with changes, erased seals, or altered details will not be accepted

 

Medical Check-Up Instructions:

  • Candidates are advised to get a medical check-up done before attending the selection 
  • Pay special attention to: flat feet, weak eyesight, physical deformities, and required body measurements

Review Medical Check-Up: 

  • If declared Temporarily Medically Unfit: Candidate may get a specialist review at a Military Hospital within 21 days 
  • If declared Permanently Medically Unfit: Candidate can request a specialist opinion within 21 days by paying Rs. 10/- through MRO 
  • No second review or appeal is allowed after the specialist examination
